X-Win32
We are no longer supporting this software starting from 30th November'15, this documentation is meant for users who will purchase their own license of X-Win32 or want to use trial Version of this Software. For our users we are recommending MobaXterm software.
Overview
X-win32 allows user to establish X-windows session with Linux over ssh. With X-win32 you can initiate Interactive session from remote computers. More information about the features of X-win32 can be found at STARTNET
Pre-Requisites
- Minimum 100MB space for the software installation.
- Windows 7 or 8
Licensing
Free license is restricted to 30minutes per session. Users may purchase full license from Starnet website

Accessing RAAD with X-Win32
To initiate connection to Raad, launch X-Win32 application.
- After installing X-Win32, first step is configuration in which we provide HPC Cluster credential information, Click Start and open X-Config
- Select Wizard mode by click "Wizard..." icon on right side.
- Name this connection as "Raad", select "ssh" and click next.
- In host field enter "raad.qatar.tamu.edu" without quotes and click next
- Enter your Raad user name and Password and click next. You may leave password field blank at this time and you will be asked for password every time you initiate connection.
- In next window, select "Linux" and click Finish
- Now to initiate connection to Raad, launch X-Win32 and select the connection you created while configuration. Usually it is named “Raad”.
- Click Launch from right tab, and a new window will be opened. This is your interface to interact with Raad HPC Cluster. Now you can submit Jobs.
- Finally, remember that if you are using X-Win32 on your laptop and you are outside of campus, you must be connected to the campus network over VPN in order to be able to fetch a network license for X-Win32 from the rc-licenses server. Without the license, your session may start, but will be limited to 30 minutes before it is automatically and abruptly terminated.
